Commerce in Rhede

approach to rhede

The little city of Rhede with it´s 19,000 inhabitants lies on the border between Muensterland and Niederrhein or, (as the Rhede locals like to say) between Holland and the Ruhr district. Rhede has excellent traffic routes. The federal highway A3 is just as quickly accessible as the A31, A43 as well as the A1. Those travelling by train, can reach Rhede through the train stations of the nearby cities Bocholt and Borken. The Duesseldorf and Muenster/Osnabrueck airports can be reached within an hour by car, Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam is  approximately 2 hours drive.

Economically and geographically, Rhede´s location offers special advantages through its direct proximity to the neighboring country, the Netherlands, as well as to the Rhine and Ruhr population centers.

The textile crisis in the middle of the 1980´s hit Rhede completely unprepared and cost more than 800 jobs. But at the same time it was a chance for Rhede to free itself from the monostructure. New industrial parks were established and urban advancement programs brought in new dynamics, which more than compensated of the job losses of the textile crisis. The number of employees paying into the social security system developed from 2.857 in the year 1984 to 4.650; corresponding to an increase of 62 %.

The sales tax assessment rate is at 403 %, rent prices approx. 5 euro per square meter.
